Tyketto @ Dudley JB’s – 22nd January 2009
Melodic American rock dead?? This reviewer thinks not after seeing Tyketto launch their 2009 European tour on a cold damp thursday night at Dudley JB’s.
Two years after the ‘final’ tour Tyketto still prove they have a passion for their genre of music and so do the enthusiastic crowd who have packed into the venue to hear songs from the 1991 debut Don’t Come Easy and follow up Strength In Numbers.
Opening with Lay Your Body Down, the American 5-piece had the crowd with hands in the air and singing along to every word. Crowd pleasers Wings, Standing Alone, Strength In Numbers were all delivered by a band who looked to be having even more fun then the audience. New members, guitarist P.J.Zitarosa and keyboard player Bobby Lynch complimented original members Danny Vaughn, Jimi Kennedy and Michael Clayton to deliver a rock steady performance of the band’s classics.
Vaughn looked surprized by the entusiastic reaction from the crowd and declared it an unbelieveable start to the tour. There were even hints at new material in the pipeline.
To round off one of the best gigs I’ve seen for a while, the encore brought us Nothing But Love and the song that needs no introduction.. Forever Young.
A reissue of the hard to find ‘Don’t Come Easy’ is surely on the cards. Don’t leave it so long next time guys.
