The Destroyers – Hole In The Universe Album Launch – Prince Of Wales, Moseley – March 30th 2012

The lunatically rammed beer-garden audience shivered in reality late March chilly breezes eagerly awaiting the debut outing of The Destroyers‘ album ‘ Hole In The Universe.’ See the YouTube video: it’s a sort of Mick Skinner/Streets alt.reality Brum pub worm-hole event-horizon/grandad’s lost his marbles homage.

Ever ready for the fourteen piece mega-mayhem miners of the mother-lode of all things Balkan/Transylvmaniac Gypsy-Punk the punters went a little bit silly hat wearing mental. In all respects just a bit shy of trans-Euro thrash psycho-Billy Celtic fusion, The Destroyers defy categorisation – including the latter. When lyrics touch on Socratic dialogues and the existential matters of the universe set against a Wurlitzer merry-go-round ride with J.G. Ballard and Ray Bradbury you know the hirsute silver-fox frontman, Paul Murphy’s, at the reins. There was violin violence, mandolin mayhem, Bar Mitzvah bravado and malignant tuba abuse all in the pursuit of their lost cords. For an ‘in debt’ feature check-out the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed botoxed tarted-up Brumlive make-over featuring an interview/album review with the legendary mad-hatted Paul Murphy on the cusp of The Destroyers’ imminent UK tour.

Setlist: buy the album, cheapskates!

(A gentle nod to the charming Little Sisters whose harp & harmonies battled valiantly in vain against a chilly wind and bustling crowd. Keep in touch, for a review promise!)
