The Corrs

The Corrs @ bp pulse Live, 14th November 2024

Thursday evening saw Irish pop royalty The Corrs bring their electrifying Talk On Corners tour to the newly re-named BP Pulse Live arena in Birmingham, with an opening set by the ever-enchanting Natalie Imbruglia.

Best known for her global smash hit Torn, Imbruglia kicked off the night with a sparkling 40-minute performance, her recognisable voice soaring across the already packed arena. Backed by a full band, she delivered a career-spanning set. The main event, however, belonged to the Irish family band who have been captivating audiences since their formation in 1990. The Corrs, proving that their enduring charm hasn’t faded after 25 years, took to the stage with a magnetic energy.

As drummer Caroline Corr launched into the opening beats of Only When I Sleep, the crowd erupted, setting the tone for a two-hour musical journey through their iconic catalogue. The set was a carefully crafted blend of their Talk On Corners hits and fan favourites from across their studio albums. Early highlights like Give Me A Reason and Summer Sunshine brought a wave of nostalgia, drawing cheers and singalongs from the crowd.

Though the pacing was a little subdued at first, the band soon found their rhythm, delivering standout moments that spanned tender ballads to upbeat anthems. Frontwoman Andrea Corr commanded the stage with charisma, her enthusiasm infectious as she guided the band through the evening. While her voice occasionally faltered during quieter moments, the full-band arrangements created a rich soundscape that carried her effortlessly during bigger numbers.

The evening’s magic lay in The Corrs’ ability to seamlessly shift gears. Whether performing heart-pounding rock tracks like Breathless and So Young or enchanting the crowd with traditional sounding Irish tunes, their versatility shone through. One moment, fans were clapping and dancing in the aisles; the next, they were swaying with outstretched arms, lost in the music.

The night was a celebration of both nostalgia and timeless talent, leaving the audience buzzing long after the final note. For long-time fans and new listeners alike, The Corrs proved they still have the ability to create an unforgettable and unique live experience.
