John Mayer Being a big John Mayer fan for a long time it was a great pleasure to be able to finally get to one of his gigs. The anticipation had set in earlier in the day and I was "up for it". Awesome seats, 3rd row middle balcony gave a great view of the stage. I've never sat down at a gig but I was liking the feeling of a Roman Emperor at the Colosseum (in my strange fantasy world). A great night was to be had.

Alice Cooper It seems The Civic Hall is destined to be home to a number of veterans of rock this evening in one guise or another….and no I am not just talking about the legendary king of theatrics, Mr. Alice Cooper! It might come as a surprise to some to learn that support band Man Raze is made up of some fine musicians from rock history in the form of vocals/guitarist Phil Collen (Def Leppard), bass player Simon Laffy (Girl) and last but by no means least, drummer Paul Cook (Sex Pistols).

The Specials Like buses, you wait 30 years for a Specials gig, and then two come one after the other in quick succession. I find myself in the enviable position of witnessing the two best gigs of the decade by the same band within 6 months. The last time was their homecoming concert at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry and they left me truly awe inspired

ZZ Top There has been an issue collecting my ticket for the show, which luckily, after 20 minutes, was resolved by the accommodating duty manager for the venue, to whom I am very grateful. This in turn meant I only caught the last segment of Steel Panther's set another reason to be very grateful for all the ticket palaver. It maybe that I am in dire need of a humour transplant but I don't get the attraction of Steel Panther; however I am fully aware that I am in the minority considering the audience's response this evening..

Editors I was extremely apprehensive coming to this gig. I have been a big fan of Editors since before they were even called by that name and every time I had seen them they had blown me away apart from once. I was one of the few that managed to get to see them earlier in the month at the o2 Academy in Birmingham and I actually left disappointed.

The Cult The Cult have joined the ever increasing list of bands who go on tour to perform one of their albums in its entirety; the chosen work being their 1985 album Love, prior to the release of the limited edition.

Kasabian Kasabian are the best band in the UK. Well, that’s if you believe the lads themselves, anyway. Although such bold statements might get you a headline or two in NME, when it comes to a live show no amount of bravado can make up for a lack of talent. With this in mind, I rocked up to the Wolverhampton Civic for the Leicester lads’ latest attempt to stake their claims of greatness.

Lenny Kravitz Considering Lenny Kravitz seems to be out of favour with the British music industry at the moment and the price of the tickets seems expensive for the Civic Hall; there is a great turnout for the show. There is nearly an hour’s pause between the support act and the start of Kravitz’s performance, but when the show kicks off, the memory of waiting around is soon wiped. The darkness is lit up with an excessive display of strobes, whilst the audience erupt into cheers and shouts of Lenny. Then, the band launch into Freedom Train, with its pounding introduction, and you can tell, instantly, that Kravitz has collected together a fine ensemble of musicians. The appearance of Lenny Kravitz, sends the crowd into a frenzy, his vocals sounding fantastic and his charismatic presence oozes sexuality and musical prowess.

Seasick Steve "I started out with nothing and I still got most of it left" is the self proclamation which has become Seasick Steve's catch phrase. It pretty much sums up everything about the bearded musical 'hobo'. What the man can do with a cardboard box guitar (the Diddly Bo) and a tin box drum simulator that he stamps on repeatedly (the Mississippi Drum Machine) borders on genius and the fact that he does it dressed in dungarees and a checked shirt makes him all the more endearing.

The Wildhearts It takes a very special act to open for The Wildhearts and have the whole crowd dancing and singing along but tonight I witnessed that very feat being accomplished. If you’ve never heard of Tragedy, let me enlighten you. Invited onto the tour by none other than Ginger from The Wildhearts himself, they’re an 8 piece band from New York City who have tapped into a niche market – as the world’s best (and probably only) Heavy Metal Tribute to the Bee Gee’s...

Thunder Going to a gig at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall is always a joy; great lights, great sound, a nice big stage and friendly venue staff. Getting to Wolves on the M6 is not so much fun, and the motorway’s popularity my support band viewing to the last three songs of Heaven’s Basement’s set. Too late to photograph them, but there was enough on show during those three songs to underline the huge talent and potential that this band has.

Pigeon Detectives I got to the venue at 7 o clock sharp, in anticipation to get to the front. Something was telling me that tonight was going to be pretty special, and that I wouldn’t want to miss a second of it. I’ve seen the Pigeon Detectives enough times before to know that they put on an energetic live show, but could they keep coming back with more? Surely there’s only so much a band could do, but tonight pure loyalty was dragging me in...
