Suzanne Vega - Casa Alianza Benefit @ Birmingham Town Hall - 12th July 2009

Suzanne Vega Tonight’s concert is in aid of the charity Casa Alianza, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary as a registered charity in Britain. Casa Alianza is an international charity that works in the defence and rehabilitation of street children in Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Mexico. The evening has been organised by the support act, Eddy Morton and his wife, Trina and Suzanne Vega is donating her entire fee for this one off benefit show to the charity, so there are numerous buckets around for the audience to give money to if they wish.

Rachel Unthank and the Winterset + Spiers and Boden @ Birmingham Town Hall - 15th May 2009

Rachel Unthank Tonight's concert kicks off the second English Originals Festival, described by the Town Hall as 'a celebration of music and artists that are uniquely English in character, all with a strong sense of place, identity, time and tradition'. There's a mixture of paid gigs and free events and it looks like it will be a good weekend.

PJ Harvey & John Parish PJ Harvey and John Parish enter the stage right on time, accompanied by three further musicians, and launch into Black Hearted Love. This is the first track from their recent collaboration, A Woman A Man Walked By, and is probably the most commercially accessible song on the album. The live performance does it more than justice, with Harvey's unique vocal ability cutting through the Town Hall with such strength for one so delicate...

The Destroyers @ Birmingham Town Hall - 11th March 2009

The Destroyers Tonight’s gig at the Town Hall, billed as Curzonora, was the opening night in Birmingham’s Flatpack Festival. Now in its third year the film festival delivers a mix of rare and interesting films and live events such as tonight’s performance by Birmingham’s own, The Destroyers, providing the music for a series of short films from the early 1900’s.
