The Maccabees My thoughts leading up to tonight’s NME Tour gig were mainly, ‘the audience is going to be young!’ And indeed they were. Well mostly anyway. To be fair, there was a decent number of older, more experienced gig goers huddled together in the sensible viewing areas i.e. the ones where you’re less likely to be either a) hit in the head by flying drink container or b) hit in face by a pogo-ing teenager’s elbow.

Editors It was a night of new beginnings in Birmingham on Thursday. A new venue, a new band and a new direction for the city's biggest indie export of recent years. So as I approached the crowds of Editors fans, special guests and media-types queuing to get in relocated 02 Academy for the first time, I could tell expectations were high. Thankfully, not many would have left disappointed...

Bombay Bicycle Club Like a newly born but sadly unwanted child, Everything Everything appeared on stage kicking, screaming and not able to focus. Talk about birth trauma – the trauma was all mine.

At first, not really wanting to accept that they were actually in the room, I averted my gaze several times. The lead singer literally annihilating us with a voice that had all the cats in the neighbourhood running; but strangely, as a mother that eventually develops a bond to their illegitimate child I began to like (not love) what Everything Everything could become. The lead singer needs some work and their live set was, for the most part, awful but a good sound was hidden amongst all of this and some of their harmonies showed promise. I kid you not.
