My motivation for wanting to review Alison Moyet tonight, was pure curiosity. As one of the most successful British female vocalists of the 1980's hence a memorable part of my childhood, I was interested to hear her perform live some twenty years on. Wolverhampton born and bred Beverley Knight played at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham to a local audience. I had never seen Beverley perform before, nor really listened to any of her music, so, along with the two support acts, this was going to be an experience. Fear not, I am not one to shy away from anything new! |

Symphony Hall is almost sold out tonight -- 1600 people, says one of the ushers. Only the top balcony has spaces. The audience is about evenly divided between male and female. I see a few children but otherwise virtually everyone is in the 50 - 70 year old range. |

The support act for tonight’s show is One Eskimo, unfortunately they were on stage so early that I missed them. After a listening to Blondie for quite a while, the house lights are finally dimmed and the stage is bathed in green. Rhydian’s support for this evening was Louise Setara accompanied by her pianist Anthony Clarke. Performing songs from her debut album "Still Waters", released here in 2007 and hitting the US in September this year. The Reading born singer gave a low key, simple yet beautiful performance. She has passion and vocal talents obviously, but if I have one criticism it is that the songs were a little similar. |
