Sheffield’s finest indie-punks, Nai Harvest, followed the release of their today announce a new double A-side single, “Just Like You / Jelly”, and appearances at SxSW, with a UK tour including an appearance at The Rainbow Cellar. Dan Earl went along to check out the Yorkshire duo.
Tonight finds fuzzy indie/punk duo Nai Harvest take to the stage at The Cellar within The Rainbow venues supported by Fullshore and Abattoir Blues.
Fullshore do well to entertain the crown that’s slowly building with their brand of emo-pop reminiscent of Moose Blood, whilst Abattoir Blues really get the show started fresh from supporting Wolf Alice. Stating that they’re currently all feeling unwell, the band do well to create a visceral and engaging performance fronted by some unusual and quite unique vocals.
Touring in support of recently released double A side single Just Like You/Jelly on Topshelf Records, tonight finds The Cellar relatively full by the time that the band take to the evening. With the majority of material being taken from debut record ‘Hairball’, the duo blast through each song and the set with quite staggering speed. Tracks such as ‘Drinking Bleach’, ‘Hairball’ and ‘Buttercups’ get the crowd engaged towards the end of the set, with some movement finally occurring after a fairly stationary beginning.
As a duo the band don’t struggle to create a full sound, with both Ben and Lew being very competent on their instruments to create the fullest sound possible. It could have been hoped that tonight would have got a little more rowdy, however you can’t ask that much on a Thursday night
A special shout out to SYD Music who are the promoters tonight and doing a great deal for the local music scene at the moment in terms of both getting great bills and promoting local bands.
