Hannah Brown + Dee Ajayi @ Hare and Hounds,13th July 2016
Singer- songwriter Hannah Brown returned to play at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath recently, supported by fellow Midlander Dee Ajayi. Ian Dunn went along to capture the event for Brumlive.com
Midlands bred, Hannah recently moved from East to West, from her native Nottingham into the heart of Birmingham to complete a music degree. She has always had a passion for music, initially playing drums before settling on her mother’s guitar and developing into a fine instrumentalist, with an intuitive sense of harmony which delicately complements her lyrics. Tonight she was accompanied by Joelle Barker on percussion and Ben Markland on the upright bass.
In the Summer of 2015 Hannah released her first recordings. A six track acoustic mini album, ‘The Highbury Sessions’, recorded at the renowned, analogue studio in Kings Heath Birmingham. The studio has sadly closed in the last few weeks but was home to Bob Lamb, producer of UB40’s greatest album ‘Signing Off’, and saw the likes of Duran Duran, Ruby Turner and Stephen ‘Tin Tin’ Duffy through its doors. Her first single, produced by Rob Derbyshire, ’I Don’t Want To Be You’, was released in October 2015. Distributed by Proper Music, the track was picked up by BBC Introducing West Midlands and Hannah was subsequently chosen by Jo Whiley to play a BBC live showcase in Birmingham as part of the BBC Music Awards, broadcast by BBC Radio 2. Hannah has been working with producer Rob Derbyshire on her debut EP, to be released this year.
Opening for Hannah was Dee Ajayi -the soulful singer-songwriter from the West Midlands, with her personal songs influenced by the likes of Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse and Eryuka Badu.
