Godiva Festival Line-up

The Godiva Festival line-up has been finalised.

Summer is upon us and with it comes a plethora of festivals; small, large, family friendly, corporate friendly. Amongst the smaller ones are a mixed bag but some of the favourites around are some of the best hidden. Small bills with a mix of styles and stages with big names down to the smallest local bands. Now this correspondent went to his first fest when the mainstream had not the foggiest what one was and what it consisted of. These were the days of corporate free, crowd light, cheap ticket affairs where camping next to your car was allowed as were building bloody great camp fires next to petrol tanks. How did we ever survive? So the smaller, cheaper, less crowded fests appeal to me in my advancing years much more than the social event of the year that is Glasters.

July 1st-3rd sees a contender for best community festival take place at the War Memorial Park, Coventry. On the main stage big name headline acts cascade down to smaller up and coming acts with a mixture of never quite made it but still quality acts dotted throughout. Add in a second tent highlighting some stunning up and coming rock (Friday), Dance (Saturday) and local bands (Sunday) plus a tent showcasing ‘family’ comedy and street theatre (culminating in a silent disco which I am led to believe is more fun than a regular disco) and you have all bases covered.

Headliners are The Boomtown Rats with Sir Bob back on mic, The Charltans with more blood, sweat and tears than many bands (not to be missed!) and the ever popular Scouting For Girls.

Second on the bill across the nights are Space, Mystery Jets and Milburn plus honourable mention for the excellent Pigeon Detectives. Plus many more!

Best of all? It’s a free fest!!!
