Fizzy Blood @ Sunflower Lounge 27 February, 2018
Free posters for the first fifty people at the show was a generous gift from Fizzy Blood, however it’s their music and incredible live show that’s the true gift that Fizzy Blood provide the world with.
Opening the show were Birmingham four piece Sonder, who had clearly brought some of their own fans along to the show, and got the evening started in great fashion. Performing tracks from their debut EP ‘Papered Cracks’ released back in 2017, the band reminded me personally of Feeder with a rough style of play peppered with catchy hooks.
Next up were tour support Forever Cult from Leeds, who provided a fantastic set of punk snarl vocals coupled with searing and accessible riffs and regardless of anything else were entertaining as hell. They’re certainly a band that I will be revisiting upon their return to the second city.
As part of their first headline tour of the UK, Fizzy Blood brought their raucous and energetic live show to The Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham on Tuesday evening. Performing tracks from their collection of EP’s up to this point, tracks such as new single ‘CFO’ as well as ‘Animals’ and ‘January Sun’ sounded huge in the live environment. Following recent tours with While She Sleeps and Spring King, Fizzy Blood have clearly had a taste for the larger venues that has honed their live craft to produce a concise and well executed live show.
It’s just a blessing for everyone in the venue this evening that they have got to witness a band that’re clearly destined for bigger and better things, to see them in such a small and intimate environment. I guess once the debut album eventually hits our ears we’ll be seeing the band in those blue tinged O2 venues of our city. But for now, it’s a great thing to witness and see. Long live Fizzy Blood.
