Frightened Rabbit The fact that Frightened Rabbit are an indie band from Scotland instantly means they have a lot to live up to. The country that gave the world deep fried mars bars and bagpipes has made up for this tenfold by producing some of the most important indie bands of all time. From the 80’s to the present day through The Jesus & Mary Chain, Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub, Idlewild to name just a few, it’s a rich musical history that the five piece from Selkirk have to follow.

Fear Factory Having heard from a friend of mine that Fear Factory had just released a new album, 'Mechanize', my interest was piqued. When I also found out that original guitarist Dino Cazares had rejoined the band I decided I really couldn't miss this one!

Catherine Feeny "Can someone close that door?" asks the solitary figure on stage as the booming beats of Good Shoes rumble from the other room at the Hare & Hounds. Upstairs the music is somewhat calmer as Pennsylvania-born Catherine Feeny gently picks at her guitar and her dreamlike vocals wash over the sparse-but-captivated audience.

Flaming Lips Mentions of ticker-tape, dancing animals, balloons, and more aside had set my imagination whirring before seeing The Flaming Lips. Their gigs have been described as transcendental celebrations of life rather than run-of-the-mill rock concerts, so I had high hopes my mind would be at least partially blown at some point at the O2 Academy in Birmingham..

Fleetwood Mac I haven’t been this excited about a gig for a long time; probably because I never thought I would see this band live, let alone with both Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham on stage together. Fleetwood Mac have had various personnel changes over the past forty two years with the one constant being their giant drummer, Mick Fleetwood.

Frank Turner A large crowd of sweaty, friendly, enthusiastic fans were there to greet him and his 2 supports of the night. The first, a comedy-musician going by the name of ‘Beans on Toast’ warmed the crowd up nicely with a fantastic blend of gritty, down to earth comedy and some truly melodic songs, a lot of which echoed the semi-anarchic folk-punk we were all waiting to hear from Frank.

World Of Fox Although not the packed-out ‘event’ that I’m used to expecting from local DJs and promoters Colour, the World of Fox album launch/Commercially Inviable label showcase was still a success. Each of the acts delivered a unique, warm set to the appreciative crowd of friends and admirers and it was clear that everyone was enjoying themselves. It helped that tonight’s line-up were playing at the Victoria, on a stage awash with candlelight and silk flowers.

Farse Tonight is a very special show, Farse are a Birmingham band that split five years ago so this is their first gig in a long time. With legendary status and so many die-hard fans there’s a lot to live up to. First up however, are The Sharks, who fail to impress much of the audience with their rather tepid and generic Clash tribute. The gruff vocals of the front-man came off as a dull mumble instead of the aggressive attack he was clearly hoping for, while the overly simplistic musical backing lead to a hugely dull sound overall. This band are badly matched to the headliners, so their poor show goes down even worse here than they deserve, the applause barely audible after most of their songs.

The Fray Opening tonight’s show is Californian singer, song-writer Brett Dennen and his friend John Solo on keyboards. As he strolls bare footed on to the stage he’s greeted with a few heckles from some parts of the crowd, but from the moment he starts the first song it is evident this young man has a lot of confidence and talent at his disposal “Make You Crazy”, ‘Blessed’ and “All We Have “are all well written and after each song ends the applause grows.
