Birmingham University building where Joy Division played their final concert is demolished
The University of Birmingham’s Chamberlain Hall is being demolished and taking with it a piece of rock n’ roll history.
The building is the site of the last ever concert by influential Manchester band, Joy Division, who played the venue, then known as High Hall, on May 2nd 1980 just 16 days before frontman Ian Curtis’s tragic suicide.
The building was closed several years ago due to safety concerns and will be replaced by a new student village with more than 700 new bedrooms.
