Tonight sees Birmingham Promoters bring All Tvvins to The Rainbow Cellar in support of their debut record IIVV. All Tvvins are an alternative pop band from Ireland, whose debut record reached number two in their home country. The band is composed from former members of math-rock bands Adebisi Shank and The Cast of Cheers, of which elements can be found in the music that the band now creates. Signed to Warner Music however, this new project sees the duo leaning towards a more commercial pop sound more akin to Kodaline and Prides.

If there is one word to sum up tonight’s performance it is tight. The band put on an absolutely stellar performance sonically with no bells and whistles allowed in these intimate settings. Where sing-alongs and dancing were warranted they were provided, however the songs were the focal point of the evening and they were performed to the highest standard. This may in part be due to the fact that the band are used to performing in much bigger venues back home and have honed their craft for a larger audience than they find themselves in front of this evening, or they’re just bloody good. Opening with ‘Book’, the band perform the majority of their album including singles ‘Darkest Ocean’ and ‘Unbelievable’. There is a moment when guitarist Lar Kaye’s string breaks that perhaps you wished the venue wasn’t so intimate as to fill the awkward silence, however once the band begin performing again you can’t help but feel they’re back with a vengeance. I have honestly never heard a gig that’s so sonically flawless and I don’t feel I will again for a very long time.
